If location is everything, then Newberg has everything.

Nestled in the fertile Willamette Valley, Newberg (population 22,000) is about an hour from Mount Hood and about an hour from the ocean. Day trippers can pop over to the coast for a bowl of chowder or up the mountain for an afternoon on the slopes. It's also only 25 miles from Portland's urban attractions -- from symphony to Saturday market.

Far from a simple, faceless bedroom community to Portland, Newberg has its own identity and culture, its own attractions.

Like the rest of Yamhill County, the area has a temperate climate suitable to grow just about anything, but most famously, wine grapes. Most known for its wineries, vineyards and tasting rooms, most people get to know Newberg through the wine glass and for good reason! Most local wineries are easy country drives from town, and offer not just wine, but beautiful views as well.

But there is more to Newberg than vine pursuits. Newberg's historic downtown features music and art paired with its tasting rooms and eateries. Friday ArtWalk features local artists' works, and Tunes on Tuesday is a free weekly concert series that takes place through the summer.

The Old Fashioned Festival and parade in August and the Memorial Day Boat races are great family outings. Newberg's Chehalem Glenn Golf Course is one of the most challenging in the area.

For academic pursuits, Newberg is home to George Fox University, a nationally ranked private college.
